Vacation

    Housestaff receive three weeks of vacation per year, as well as four days in January for the annual winter retreat/conference.


Insurance and other benefits

    Major medical insurance, dental insurance, and basic life insurance are provided to all housestaff and their dependents.

    Supplemental life insurance and disability insurance are available through the University of Washington.

    Residents have the option of saving for retirement through the University of Washington’s Voluntary Investment Program (VIP). Taxes on contributions and earnings through this section 403(b) program are deferred until income is received.

 

General Information

    Professional liability insurance coverage for activities within the residency program is provided, and begins on the date of appointment. Other benefits provided by the hospital include parking, uniforms, laundry of uniforms, call rooms, meals for housestaff while on call, and office space. Student loan deferments are available.

    ACLS certification is required, and a course is provided.
